The “Circle N,” or lightning bolt inscribed in a circle, is the occupation symbol used by squatters around the world. It represents public or private space that has been occupied and liberated by the people, for the people, and is a symbol for revolutionary housing justice throughout Europe and Latin America. It is associated with revolutionary anarchism.
In Spain, anarchist ideas are popular in many areas. In Barcelona, anarchists produce a local calendar called Info Usurpa that lists around forty explicitly anarchist squats that are organized as social centers (CLICK FOR CALENDAR!) These social centers put on events ranging from concerts, community dinners, and workshops to language courses and free internet cafés.
The Occupy Everywhere movement was inspired by the Indignados movement in Spain, which came out of the anarchist culture of occupying and liberating space for community ownership.
